Pete and I on our way to being distinctly average at the final race of the French grand Prix in Betton.

We finished 6th overall in the league and 5th as a team in Betton. That means to trip to La Baulle for the promotion battle.  Not a fun trip home, we were gutted. The standard was high and the french were pumped, but I really didn’t perform and felt that I had let the team down. Next year we are definatly getting promoted!!

I got in a break from the swim and was away with three others for the first 10k on the bike, we pushed hard, which wasn’t necessarily the right decision as despite our efforts the chase pack of 60 plus closed the gap on the second lap. I got a poor line into transition then after the work swim and bike didn’t have the run legs ad finished in the low 30s not counting for the team. Congratulations to Nico and Thoma who had great races, sorry the Brits let you down. Also a mention for Cyril our bike domestique who did a great job in a really tough situation.

Trying to look happy after the race.

The Swim was carnage, we got a poor start line and I was 50m down at 200m, I just made the break, but i’d say it was my toughest swim this year.

Check out www.s-e-x-wax.com for more pictures, it’s an awesome website about all the important things like beaches and waves. All photos are copyright of “Dave” so as usual reproduction only with his express permission.

Perranporth is one of those races that people always talk about, a few years back when conditions were rough half the field got pulled out of the Surf. This year it wasn’t too bad but the hills on the bike and the run along the beach and over the cliff top made the race more of an xterra than a traditional Triathlon. I wanted a shapener before next weekends race in Betton and the race was sponsored by Snugg Wetsuits, so I made the hour and a half drive from Tavi to Perran on race morning to see if I could sneak an entry on the line. Luckily there had been a few drop outs so I got a slot. I had a reasonably comfortable win and the post race hog roast and live band explained why this race is a previous winner of the “best small race award” it definatly gets my vote.
