I was 10th overall yesterday and 6th Brit, a so so day at the office.
Since christmas I have been working predominantly on my run speed, so a hilly technical bike course was never going to bring out the best in me.

I had a good swim getting into second and taking a short turn on the front to help Stu Hayes out and try to split the field up. Out onto the technical hilly bike course I latched onto the back of the front group of 7 and was just about hanging on around the tight turns for the first three laps. Then one of the other lads decided to get involved in some off road ridng and took me on his little mountain bike adventure, we both stayed up and chased back on to the group, On the next corner the guy crashed and I had to put my foot down to keep myself up. I had already been struggling and catching the group for a second time on the climb wasn’t going to happen.

I hoped I could wait for the chasers and pull myself back on with them, They were 45 secs down, so I got my breath back and got ready to go again, AJ and Karl Shaw came past going like a train. I jumped on the back for a lap, but all i can say is “too good” The Johnsey express was in full force and I didn’t have a ticket. I dropped back into the chase group where we were joined by a couple more casulties from the front of the course.

On to the run I felt awful and was really dissapointed to be too blown from the bike to show off the work i’ve been doing, I dug in and got around for a solid if not fantastic day. It was nice to see that the times at the front of the field wern’t spactacular and i’m confident that if I keep plugging away there is no reason I can’t get in the mix.

So its off to Winsor next weekend U.K race of the year 7 years in a row to try do just that.
