I am off to France tomorrow for the first race of the French Grand Prix. It’s a bit of a shame to be finally leaving the u.k when we have just got the first of the nice weather, but then it will probably be raining by the end of the week and I realy need to get rid og the Vest marks I got on yesterdays run.

I raced the Devon County 5km last saturday and although I wasn’t very pleased with the time I won, I have also been back on the bike a few times over the last couple of weeks so I’m really looking forward to actually putting a race together in France. After that I’m heading down to Font Romeu in the Pyrenees for 2 weeks running at altitude before heading home for Windsor. I should have some time on my hands out there, so expect some intertesting original very witty and perfectly spelt web site updates!!

There is no such thing as bad weather….

Just the wrong clothes, and yesterday at the national duathlon at least half the field had the wrong clothes on and did not finish. I hope someone has got some video footage, we must have looked such a bunch of numpties. I got a bit of outside assistance on the run in the form of a jumper, rain jacket and pair of gloves. I’m really glad I finished and not too fussed about the result, we were all laughing on the bike it was such a crazy situation.  Getting cold was a lesson learned. My first run however was embaressing, no excuses I was pants. Off to find some speed!!!

Confessions of A Triathlete… Why I am useless at Website updates…

All’s going well in the world of Harry, I’ve got a shiny new planet X to ride which I love. I’m running as much as I possibly can including 3km on the track in the snow last week, my www.driventotri.com athletes are domination not only Triathlon but kicking the arse out of Pete and Julie’s athletes aswell and the South West Triathlon Academy that i’ve been setting up has got an awesome bunch of young athletes who are great fun to coach and in about 4 years time when I retire are going to start winning everything. I’m even considering some multisport racing myself and there has been talk of making my u.k Duathlon debut… talk is cheap, but we will see.  I have just written a blog entry for the planet X boys www.planet-x-warehouse.co.uk/?p=1160 basically explaining how bad I am at writing Blogs, but then you will already know that. Keep checking back, cos the racings starting soon then i’ll HAVE to keep this thing updated!!

Keep on Running!!

It’s a couple of weeks since I wrote, in fact I have been really lax and haven’t updated the site since Christmas. I just looked on the British Triathlon hompage and they have gone and put a link to my site, so panic stations…. Update needed.

Lucky I have been writing a blog for city runs, so I’ve managed to quickly adapt that, and I’m still going to make my afternoon ride in the rain. I think this has kicked me into action, so some new photos and maybe even an update in the rants and raves section when I have done my miles.

The weekend saw the end of our big block of running for a couple of weeks – I had a really good block of work and in a strangely sadistic way are already missing the big sessions. I took the “If you can’t go fast, go long approach” and hit 110 for the last three weeks. It’s only been 4 days since the big miles finished but some very strange things have happened since then!

1)      I can actually feel my legs

2)      I’ve been seen out on my bike on two consecutive days

3)      The profits of Morrisons Garage in Tavistock have halved since we stopped running home on a Tuesday and Thursday. All those at Tavi AC should understand this but it relates to our addiction to 39p bags of sweets (3 for a £1!) and Coca Cola after a long, hard session with a 6 mile run home to follow.

Morrisons will be pleased to know we’ve only called a temporary halt to big mileage in the lead up to Eastleigh 10k on March 16th. The start list came through yesterday and it’s pretty stacked with 30-32 minute runners which is ideal for fast times and a great race. In the lead up to that it will be a couple of short fast sessions mixed in with some easy, shorter runs to keep the mileage reasonable. We had 8×4 min (1 min rec) at Tavi AC on Tuesday which was a great race pace session and set us up nicely.

Away from the training I’ve been setting up the South West Triathlon Talent Academy and am currently drowning in a sea of application forms. There are certainly some talented youngsters out there; fortunately they mainly seem to be girls, so hopefully I won’t be spotting anyone to beat me.

I also picked up a new pair of Trainers from Brooks called “Ghosts” – how cool is that! Hopefully I’ll be so fast no one will see me! Look out for them in shops soon.
