Harry Wins Asian Aquathlon Champs and takes 8th in ITU points race
Racing March 28th, 2007
I’m sorry my update is a few days late, It’s school holidays here in the North of Thailand and every single kid between the ages of 6 and 15 seems to be glued to a shoot em up game at the only internet cafe in town. I have tried bribes to get them off but to no avail…I won the Asian Aquathlon Champs on Friday beating European U23 Bronze medalist Pocsai Balazs from Hungry in a sprint over the last 500m meters.
I finished 8th in the ITU points race on Sunday. I was dissapointed as I blew on the run after exiting the water second behind Ben Sanson and riding hard with a front pack of around 12. During the run the temprature hit 36 degrees, so there were alot of explosions. Reinaldo Colucci won the race and Balazs finished second. Ben punctured on the bike and Stephen Bayliss crashed but still finished inside the top 20.
In the womens race Chrissie Wellington who began training with our squad last month finished second. The race was her first ever drafting triathlon, so she could be a name to watch.
I am now in Nakom Phanom on the North East border between Thailand and Laos. I will fly down to Bangkok on Friday evening for the race on Sunday. There has been alot of talk about the water quality in the Chao Praya river so it could be an interesting race.
